[OOC] Notes/Meta - The End of Casshern Sins

SO I AM SEVERAL WEEKS LATE.

SUE ME.

now for some tl;dr with spoilers

1. The Beginning

From what Oji tells us; the world was once in a perpetual state of utopia. No one died! I'm not sure how the humans pulled that off, but the robots were robots and they all co-existed in harmony (which makes sense to how Jin was raised by his Master). Except the Braiking Boss didn't quite like that. He believed robots to be superior, to surpass humans in every way. So he raised a rebellion, pretty much made the human race an endangered species and ruled the world with an iron fist. Was there opposition? I... don't think so. Not from the human side anyway.

And there was Luna. I'm not sure why the human scientists created Luna and what her real purpose in tangent to the Braiking Boss is (that's never explained) but her power was to grant "death" to robots and humans alike. I don't think she actually killed them, but she granted them a real lifespan to live out their lives and then die. Except the Braiking Boss didn't quite like that and saw it as a threat to his power. So he ordered Casshern (and as backup, I believe, Dio) to kill Luna.

Casshern got there first. And succeeded. Except it didn't quite go the way it was planned. I think out of all the robots in the series, the only ones who are a hybrid of any kind are Casshern, Luna and Ringo (again, I'm not sure about Dio since Dio and Casshern were built at the same time and Dio says they were exactly alike. The way he died seems to suggest that perhaps Dio had the more robotic parts to him while retaining a personality while Casshern kept the more "human" aspects and was a plain killing machine).

ANYWAY, killing Luna had an effect since (and I quote) "released the death in my heart onto the world". The clash of two beings, one who granted death but was the personification of life while the other was a killing machine, completely dead to the world -- their blood mixed (and Luna's cells, I believe, are unique, so I think Casshern is now a bit of Luna's robotic/unique makeup) and released them from death (aka immortal). At the same time, everyone who was immortal began to feel the effects of the Ruin.

That is Casshern's past in a nutshell. Now with a bit of Luna, he got a personality (which I think is why he lost his memories. A form of coping mechanism from that new overload of emotional information) and he's got a whole lot of problems with the world and himself.

2. Casshern in the End.

I think I made it abundantly clear to a lot of people how I felt about the end of the show, but here's what happened.

Luna was both destroying robots as well as resuscitating the ones she wanted to save. She had turned on herself, becoming petty and spoilt. Casshern was confused at the end result since he's unsure what good Luna is doing (I think it wars on the fact that she is still saving people unlike himself and yet, there was a strong sense of wrongness in the way the people she saved lived; aka they lived without care, without feeling, without a sense of life and the importance of living residing in them, unlike everyone else he has ever met). Towards the end, when Dio rescues him from Leda and demands Casshern fight him ("You're my joy of living!"), is when Casshern really understands why he felt so conflicted about Luna to begin with. People just weren't living! There wasn't any worth in their lives. And to Casshern, who can understand how sad and how fleeting life is, this really hits him hard. It makes him feel worse when he's the only one who can never truly experience what it's like to live and die, concepts he finds that are interlinked.

He explains this to Luna, who doesn't get it. And leaves with Ringo, Oji and Lyuze. Happy-ish ending right?

Wrong.

He does have a semi-happy life, though it's pretty brief. Oji dies, succumbing to the Ruin and not long after, Lyuze follows him. Lyuze's death hits him the worst out of any thing I've seen so far since Lyuze has been... pretty consistent! She's always been by his side, someway or another. And her last words probably made him cry a little inside.

"I'm happy to say this. I don't want to die"

Despite all of Casshern's conflicts with Luna and her "eternal kingdom, eternal lives, death is bad", he doesn't want to deprive people of... wanting to live, or living in general. When he meets Luna for the last time, he tells her that she's free to keep healing people. But if anyone forgot about death, he'll come back and remind them. And then he leaves.

MY THOUGHTS; I'm... pretty sure he just goes around wandering the world on his lonesome after that and resists any kind of contact with people. It'll defeat the purpose if he was to meet/talk to people again after this point. He knows what he is, now. The incarnation of death to a world that needs that reminder. I assume that Luna manages to heal the world (or... some of it) and Casshern just... keeps an eye out. He's been through a sense of loss and while that's painful for him, it keeps him going on this singular purpose he has in mind.

3. Canon-updating.

I am admittedly waiting for a Dio first before I canon-update. And if I do, it'll definitely after episode 23 instead of episode 24 because post-24, he's not playable. He would be... I'm sad to say, even more depressing and less likely to interact and want to be with people, if he has considered his true role, the way to atone his sins, as Death. 23 on the other hand, would be a better point to play from, since he has accepted that he can't really live, but at least he's made a choice instead of being confused on what to do/how to help the world. I probably will not canon-update for a while if I do not get a Dio soon. If I do, I will probably sit and hash out details first since Dio moves from "That guy who hates him" to "The guy who taught me what life is".

[OOC] Notes/Impressions of CFUD

This is more a compilation of notes explaining Casshern's reactions to CFUD, his mission in general and his current outlook. I'm using this more of a general reference for my play. (I like how this all looked so much better in my head)

I think I need to start off by explaining how wide a gap there is to the world Casshern is from and the world he is in now. Before episode nine, I was pretty sure plant-life did not exist! The only animal ever seen on screen to date is a lizard (which promptly got eaten). To Ringo, the most ingenuous thing she has ever seen is a glass bottle. So understandably, Casshern doesn't know much in terms of biology and ecological systems at all! So he's not being dense or naive when he points out things that are/seem to be common sense/knowledge. He really doesn't know! And he does want to learn. Casshern doesn't enjoy living in a state of ignorance. He makes persistent efforts to learn his past/what he is, even when these answers would cause him more grief in the future. That being said, he hasn't really processed the concept of lying. That everyone might not be telling him the truth! While the characters of Casshern Sins are complex in nature, they are incredibly straightforward. The idea of someone lying/not telling him the "whole" truth hasn't really entered his head.

But Casshern does have principles! Basic ones, but they exist. He doesn't want to hurt people, he wants to protect them, he fundamentally wants to be the cause for the betterment of the world, to save it from the mistakes he has made. Casshern has never stopped blaming himself, not once, since he discovered he was the reason for the ruin of his world, the cause of Luna's death. And while this is not the world from whence he came, Casshern is still aware of the weight of his sins can't be easily shrugged off or forgotten, so he tries to help the people of CFUD in whatever way he can. And to him, no sacrifice is small enough. He is willing to die for every single person in camp. Please note! Casshern no longer has the death wish he was harbouring in the beginning. He doesn't want to die (anymore. For now. Uhm), he wants to first atone for his sins and find out his past! But if him dying means someone else out there is safe, is happy, then he'd do it in a heartbeat, simple as that.

On the concept of happiness, Casshern is not really in tune with himself. He's very selfless and very new to the world. Someone once said on a blog that "Casshern was like a newborn child". That, I find, sums up his mentality very neatly. Just picture a child, a blank slate, being told his life is the cause of everything bad in the world! That is how Casshern started. So the idea of a personal happiness, one where he enjoys for the sake of himself and no one... doesn't exist! He's never been given cause to ever think like that and people in camp have started prodding that. He's still very confused over the idea of being considered, being welcomed. Thinking about himself would be a very, very big step.

Thoughts? Questions? I would love to discuss this with anyone.

Age: Unknowwwwwn.
Height: Uh. Tall...ish?
Weight: HE'S A NOODLE IN THE MAKING
Medical Info: Any wound Casshern receives will get healed.
Blood type: Unknown/ROBOT
Eyes: BLUE
Hair: Brown
Physical traits: He's always wearing the suit and he has two rockets attached to his hips.
What's Okay To Mention Around Him: Everything should be fine.
Abilities:
Casshern is a robot...human...cyborg. Thing. Which means he has amazing reflexes. Absurdly fast and very, very good at ripping our people's vital parts, almost instinctively. His kicks can cut through SOLID METAL, his jumps can reach a good... five stories? He's a very, very good fighter in short. Also, any wound you inflict on me, even the immediate death ones? Don't work. Casshern is immortal. Also, feel free to note that Casshern's attack style is a lot like a ballerina's.

When threatened, Casshern's body has an autokill mode, where he will slaughter anything and everything moving within reach. I WOULD ADVISE PEOPLE AGAINST ATTACKING HIM.

Notes for the Psychics: His past is blank, mostly thoughts on Luna, being responsible for the world, emo, etc.
Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?: Sure. Casshern is used to it.,
Maim/Murder/Death: I'M FINE WITH ALL since Casshern. Can't die! But his auto-terminator mode would backfire on you.
Can I makeout/kiss/hug: .____. .... ... ...Yes?
Cooking: ....... .___.
[OOC] APP OF FAIL

Character: Casshern
Series: Casshern SINS
Character Age: Unknown, looks teenaged
Canon:The world is dying. Both humans and robots are heading towards extinction and it is the fault of one man. Casshern. Except he doesn't remember what he did and why. All he knows that he destroyed the light of the world, Luna, and that he has to atone for his sins, no matter what. This might be a bit tricky since almost every single individual on the planet wants to see him dead....

Casshern is an enigma to all, even himself. Amnesiac from the time he killed Luna, he knows nothing of his past or even whether he's human or robot. Casshern is a quiet, brooding individual, prone to strong bouts of contemplation, questioning the value of his life and in agony over what he has done to survive and the people he couldn't save. At the same time, he's compassionate, dislikes fighting and yet is quick to anger when witnessing any kind of injustice.

Sample Post:

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I take a look at my life and realize there is nothing left.

But then I find myself here, in this unknown place where the ruin has not reached and the world is still green and beautiful. How is this possible? Am I no longer the destroyer of the world? These questions must be answered and I will find answers eventually if I keep exploring this green plain where trees that rise from the ground. They are covered in strange clothing of mysterious shapes and sizes. I pluck one from the branches and there's a note attached with it. "If you're not wearing underwear today, this is for you~ ♥". I'm not wearing any underwear, so this must be necessary to proceed. Very well, I shall wear this underwear today. For the good of this world, it's the least I can do.

In the distance, I see ruined humans approaching me. Some of them are missing their eyes and others seem to be eating eyes, muttering the words, "clamped" over and over again. And their wounds, they will not heal. How is that? Cannibalism amongst humans. Was this my fault too? Did I drive humanity to start wasting their flesh, becoming green-coloured and start eating each other? Is there no end to my sins? I tried to so hard and got so far, in the end, it doesn't even matter. Even so, I must atone for my sins and help these ruined humans who have come to me for help, if I can help at all. Speak! What is it you wish for? I am Casshern. I will try and help.

...Brains? Where does one find brains? Are there truly no brains for you to eat and so you must resort to such monstrous means to survive and is there no alternative to salvation? No, there is one, only one I can see for you ruined humans to survive on. An encampment where there is a supply of brains for you to live on. And you must live! Your lives are not meaningless, even if you lack a heart in your body! Please, believe in me who believes in you. I will do whatever it takes to regain the brains held in that encampment.

Perhaps it'll wash away the sin of what I've done.

Voting went here with 87.3%
